New Mayor and Councilmembers for City Council

The Latest: Tuesday night the city and its council said good-bye to Councilmember Steve Knoblock, reinstated Councilmember Jim Dahl and welcomed Councilmember Bob Baker to the dais. City Clerk Joanne Baade and City Treasurer Pall Gudgeirsson were also sworn in, in front of the packed City Council chambers. Knoblock, who received a standing ovation, thanked the city and community members for the opportunity to serve the past two years.

Once the new council was settled, they voted unanimously to name Councilmember Lori Donchak mayor. She was first elected in 2006 for her four-year term. The council also voted in Dahl as mayor pro tem. In her acceptance speech, Donchak outlined three goals for her tenure: 1) to pick up momentum for an updated city General Plan; 2) to be known as the e-Mayor with a blog to keep the community involved in city happenings; and 3) to pull the community together to work constructively. “This job is about representing you,” she said. Donchak thanked her husband, Andy, and her parents for their support; she was also quick to thank Councilmember Joe Anderson, who’s served as mayor for the past year, for “setting such a high bar.” “I feel like I learned from a master,” Donchak said.

What’s Next: Mayor Donchak is available Mondays, 4 p.m.–6 p.m. at City Hall (100 Presidio) and via e-mail at cityhall@san-clemente.org. In fact, all e-mails to councilmembers should be directed to that e-mail; they will then be routed to the appropriate person. She also plans to host Mayor’s Walks. Stay tuned for a more in-depth profile on Mayor Donchak in the SC Times.
