Kent Clapp, CEO of Medical Mutual of Ohio, and his fiancee Tracy Turner, were killed when their small plane crashed into a mountain in Puerto Rico on Wednesday.
The bodies, along with the pilot's, were recovered on Thursday.
The couple has missed a commercial flight from the British Virgin Islands going to San Juan, Puerto Rico where they were supposed to pick-up a connecting flight that would take them on to Newark, N.J. and then to Cleveland. After missing the flight, Clapp hired the private plane to take them to San Juan to catch-up with their connecting flight.
Clapp had several business meetings he was trying to make it to on Thursday in Cleveland. Clapp was named the chief executive officer of the Cleveland based medical insurance group in 1997 after five previous where with the company.
1,700 of the companies 2,700 employees are stationed in the downtown Ohio city and the rest are scattered across 8 states.
Clapp, 62, and Turner, 40, have been living together for about a year and the two had been in the Caribbean on vacation. The plane disappeared from radar at 12:30pm on Wednesday as it collided with the El Yunque Mountain, 13 miles east of San Juan. The cause of the crash is still under investigation but heavy fog surrounding the mountain did prevent rescuers from reaching the crash site immediately after the crash.
Turner was an actress and owner of Turner Fashion
Enterprises. She is a member of the Cleveland Play House and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum boards.
